My Makeup Essentials

First off I want to say thank you to everyone who participated in our first Q&A feature! There were so many good questions, that it was hard to choose! I may actually hold on to some of those other questions and answer some of them in the coming weeks, so stay posted!

Today's post is a response to our first Q&A feature! This question came from my friend April, who asked about my favorite brands of makeup, foundation, etc. Great question! Honestly, I've searched years to find products that work best with my face & skin, and I think I have finally found them!

Bareminerals works best for me because I have sensitive skin and oily skin. The loose powder works great to minimize shine, while providing great natural-looking coverage. I use the SPF 20 Concealer (with a concealer brush) to cover up dark circles and blemishes, the SPF15 Foundation (in medium beige) and the Blush ( in Golden Gate or Vintage Peach). Bareminerals' products are more expensive than your everyday drugstore brands, but they are so worth it. One container of foundation will usually last me about 3 months, which ends up being less than $10 per month.  If you haven't tried Bareminerals yet, I highly suggest you do!

As far as eye shadow goes, I've found that it really is worth paying a little bit more. A $6 Maybelline eye shadow may be cheap, but I find that it rubs off throughout the day and I usually need to re-buy within a month or two. With the Mac eyeshadows, you get great color saturation that doesn't rub off, and it lasts for months and months! You'll spend about $15, but in the long run you're getting more bang for your buck. I use Mac's Woodwinked & Patina for an everyday all over neutral eye color, and Nars Bengali in the crease. I also use the Nars shadow as an eyebrow filler. No joke, I bought this Nars eyeshadow for $24 last Christmas and I still haven't had to buy another one. It's worth your money people!!!

As far as eyeliners go, Maybelline Unstoppable is the best for every day liner that won't budge. It's also great for smudging if you want to create more of a smoky eye. When I want a more dramatic look, I love Mac's Penultimate eye liner. This liquid liner goes on smooth and easy, creates clean lines, and won't smudge (And make a fabulous cat-eye!).  For mascara, my go-to is Rimmel's Lash Accelerator. I have short lashes, and this mascara has actually made my lashes grow longer! It also goes on without any clumps or flakes. And I always make sure to curl my lashes before applying.

Like I've said before, I really don't wear lip gloss that often. However, I have Burt's Bee's Tinted Lip Balm in every color. I love that it provides a sheer tint, while moisturizing my lips! My favorite colors are Pink Blossom (for summer) and Honeysuckle (for a neutral lip). When I do reach for lip gloss, I reach for Bareminerals Moxie gloss. See my Hot Lips, Cool Lips post for more about those!

There you have it! My go-to makeup staples. What are some of your makeup favorites?
