Pattern Play

Sweater:  Target (Mossimo) / Scarf: Target (Merona) / Jeans: Old Navy / Boots: Zigi Soho

Last week we had an unusual burst of warm air (especially for December in Minnesota), but I didn't mind one bit!! Any day I can wear a cozy sweater and scarf with no coat, I'm a happy girl!

I absolutely love prints and rarely buy anything in a solid color... Prints are just so much more fun! One thing that I love doing is mixing prints together- which can be a little scary if you've never done it before. They key to making prints work together is to mix a smaller pattern with a bigger pattern.  The bigger, more simple print in the scarf compliments the smaller print of the sweater and balances everything out. Since the two pieces have the same color scheme, they pair together nicely, rather than being loud and obnoxious. Also, jeans are basically a neutral, so they help anchor everything and keep the look easy and casual.

Want to give pattern mixing a try but not sure where to start? Try using a stripe pattern as your base. It goes with almost any other pattern and looks amazing with polka dots and floral prints!
